our second day in whistler b.c. and our second day of walking out of doors into the frigid air so cold it takes our breath away; the hollow air just seems to dive right down your lungs and steal the oxygen! but it is so beautiful here!
they have had a record snowfall so far this season...29 feet, i read, which is the most to date they have ever recorded. lots of signs here and there of the preparations underway for winter olympics 2010; so exciting! tomorrow we take a gondola to the mountain top and then some more tubing for the kids. dad took a stab at the slopes today...gingerly, that is, since he's in a bit of pain. but nothing can keep a snowjunkie from a good run or two!!
braxton tackled the skis today, too!!...second time down the run he had zero falls! that kid just amazes me, man! no fear; perfect balance...every mother's worst anxiety! LOL
and olivia is hilarious; her one-liners and quips keep us well on our toes, i tell ya. :)
baylor got a little too cold too fast and ended up back in the condo with me warming up and playing cards...but enjoying himself nonetheless.
the village here is just the coolest thing ever. i love it.
i love it in the daytime when it hustles and bustles with families and snow goers and shoppers and lookieloos. had a heavenly few moments in LUSH...oh, how i love that store! and here's my mommy; how adorable is she?!
i love it in the nighttime when it is teeming with twenty-something inebriates hooting and hollering and lining up in droves at the nighttime hot spots...mingled with the strollers, just couples out for a walk bundled together as one big ball of insulation drifting across the brick walks. that's when i plug in my mp3's, nuzzle up to the furry face warmer, and stroll and smile and feel happy. :)
oh, and DANGIT rocky mountain chocolate factory, WHY oh WHY do you have to be SO GOOD? it was teasing me with it's valentine themed dipped caramel and chocolate apples. oh, the temptation!
roxy is back home staying with my sister, but she is loving all the snow we're getting, too!
know what else was cool? every shop i went into, there was an aussie!!! :D it admittedly made me miss emmers a bunch, but it was so cool to hear where they all were from...a great majority were from perth. they come over during the snow season and work and ski&board their little hearts out...what a life! :D how cool that would be...
but you know what would be even COOLER? what if i got to get together with a few of my friends and our families and go THERE and teach and travel our little hearts out...!? oh, WAIT!
it is not a dream!!!! it is really happening! :D i am so excited to finally share; so grateful for the opportunity, so anxious for april to come quickly! kiwiscraps is sponsoring an AMAZING event with autumn leaves/freestyle artists rhonna farrer, emily falconbridge, kim henkel, and zina wright, as well as NZ gals Nic Howard and Wendy Redshaw-Bruhns. all the info can be found on kiwiscraps' site. i can't even begin to wrap my brain around how incredible this will be; the classes we have in store are full to the brim with inked, painted, fiberous, stitched, stapled, flourished freestyle FUN! and beyond the classes, i have a bit of family history in both new zealand and austrailia, so i also look forward to touching bases with those pieces of our roots while we are there! my kids can't believe they will get to miss 2 whole weeks of school, but they haven't quite figured out yet that sneaky mom is going to have their teachers help put together homework packets to take along on the trip...shhhh! LOL for now we'll just let them revel in the shocking joy of travelling down under! :D
loved this sign today outside the north face shoppe...
i totally agree 100%!!!
oh, and please, if you can, think good thoughts and/or say a prayer, if you are so inclined, for my little sister who's suddenly stuck in the hospital tonite enduring mag sulfate and terbutaline treatments on complete bedrest...she's 28 weeks and in pre-term labor. boy, that brings back some icky memories! ((((hugs))) bri!!! we'll be home soon!!!! xoxo
we all updated with a q&a format, you know, like those cool american express ads? i wanted to be cool like ellen and have short quick answers, but that is just a joke because i am the running-est run-on there is....ha! so i just finally finished mine and thought i'd post it here too so i can save it somewhere for posterity. so, i guess, they really WILL know how weird i am. ;D
my name tia marie bennett. but my maiden name was bird. tia bird. and some people thought they were very clever when they figured out that if you switched my initials, i became 'bia tird' and then called me 'bia' for all of high school. and t-bird. i liked t-bird better. :P scrapbook size all of them...like to mix it up...oh! and that goes with scrapbook medium, too: i like both paper AND digi! i especially like to combine the two. :) camera nikon d50; nikkor 18-55mm, 55-200mm, and 50mm 1.8. and i have waaaaaaay too much to learn about that still. it is something i really want to try to improve on! (photography, that is...) :) music makes me happy. i choose from a wide variety of likes to fit my mood. :) but i especially love folk/indie, musicals, opera, mo-tab ;), punk/alternative rock, and piano/guitar instrumental. work space desktop pc with an incredibly messy deskspace that always seems to swallow my favorite pen (mr. pilot G-2), a craft room that my sweet dh built & (thankfully insulated!) for me within our garage space, and, finally, my monster laptop. style i don't like to stick to a 'style'. i stick to my moods instead. and let that guide my imagination. :) though i tend to like to get down and dirty with inks and paint, threads and gel medium....only to 'clean my palatte' with simpler, more minimal fare. i guess i thrive on variety and crave diversity! :) 1 or 2 pages both, whichever i'm feeling like at the time. :) i just get tons of different sheet protector sizes and stick them all in a 12x12 3-ring binder (thanks to emily's fab tip!) color preference i love red. red red red red red. :) and pink. and green. and teal. oh, and brown. favorite product type anything with polka dots or labels. it is a sickening addiction. a craving, if you will... :) childhood ambition to help President Reagan develop the Star Wars program and go to astronaut camp and be a scientist for NASA. but then i saw the space shuttle explode, so that kind of turned me off, with the whole "i could die" thing. and then in high school it was neurosurgeon. but then i realized i'd have to work on cadavers and smell formaldahyde and decided the funny tingling i got between my ears accompanied by a sudden rush of dizziness whenever i saw blood was not indicative of a good health care professional. so that went away, too. then i got into a computer class in high school and made a nike swoosh in corel draw with vectors, all on my own, and said "i want to make stuff on computers for a job. that would be cool." :D fondest memory geez. this is a hard one. it changes a lot. but i like that. :) soundtrack i hear songs ALL the time in my head. anyone who knows me is no longer surprised when they say something randomly in a conversation, like, "....it had to be the other day, when..." and then i burst into song under my breath with "it had to be you," and then hum it for the next couple of hours. :D retreat attack! just kidding. um, i looooooooooove a good massage. MMmmmmm. :) so i'd have to say: Spa. wildest dream drive a Formula One racecar! OH! and be an actress! :) and to travel to Italy and Ireland. :) proudest moment eek. hate the word 'proudest'. i'd rather think 'most grateful'...so, in that light, i'd have to say i was most grateful when my son baylor was born and healthy, after a year of uncertainty. :) biggest challenge being a mom. i always think i am doing such a horrible job. alarm clock is evil. die, alarm clock. die! ;) perfect day see? now i'm singing that song in my head!!! "it's the per-fect daa-aay, nothin's standin' in my way...it's the perfect day, yeah, nothin's goin' wrong...." :D LOL that part is all in your head, man. :) it's perfect when i choose to let it be! :D (yes, i'm a gag-me-with-a-spoon-pollyanna-glass-half-full kinda girl!) :) first job babysitting. i hated it :O indulgence godiva dark chocolate truffles. sephora. fabric. massages. :) last purchase eggs. we were out of eggs. favorite movie it's a tie between dead poets society and elf. :) inspiration scriptures. music. prayer. family & friends. :) my life (sing with me now....) "....and i did it myyyyyyyyyy waaaaaaayyyyyyyy!" ;D
okay....now your turn!! what are your answers?! TAG! :)
i keep meaning to post and share and update and add and blog and and and and and
i don't!!!!! ACK!
i am soooo out of the habit of blogging! shoot! maybe i should include that in my list of "i don't make new year's resolutions cause i always bomb on them, but i have some stuff i'd like to work on" list.
life is so busy with a doggie!!! roxy is settling in well and already acts like a member of the family! she is such a sweetheart...just the gentlest, happiest dog i ever did meet! :) we are so in love with her. even though she DID poop in my scraproom on the second day she was "home." but i refuse to let that make me feel self-conscious about my scrapbooking.... ;) LOL! here is her snow angel over the holidays...hee hee:
i've been up to about a million things...like usual! still finishing up my projects for my Etsy shop...won't be long now! i'm getting soooo excited!!!! Working on all sorts of felted, knitted, crocheted, sewn, crafted and otherwise combined creations...most will be custom made to order, but i will be offering special one of a kind wonders from time to time, as well! :) Felted Pins, Wrist Cozies, Fingerless Gloves, Purse Cozies (for those precious purses that you wish you could set down...but fear the resulting dirt or sticky unknown substance transfers...LOL...you just pop this little cozy on your purse bottom and keep it clean! then, when you're ready to go, pop it off again and shove it into your bag! voila! :D i'm SO excited about this one! they will come with customizeable felted pins, as well, and in a variety of colors and/or textures! i haven't even made more than 3 and the orders are already rolling in via word of mouth! eek!! :D ) here are some sneak peeks:
Here is my FIRST commissioned project! It was a very special little elephant softie for a friend...and SUCH a pleasure to create! I have a white elephant and a pink elephant underway, too, as well as many other animals! So, without further ado....here's Norma!:
favorite christmas gift, other than my sweet pup:
my trip to anthropologie with my mom, where i picked up this little gem:
i loooooove owls and birdies, and have wanted an anth. apron for quite awhile now. so when i saw this kitchy delight, i just KNEW i had to have it!! :D i wear it when i scrap and sew. it makes me happy. :)
so much PINK lately...i think because pink makes me happy, and it is such a cheery color on these dreary rainy stormy northwest winter days....it is supposed to storm AGAIN tonite....yikes! it was so cold this morning, i was wearing hat, mittens, hood, and slippers over my clothes all morning long--and that was WITH heat! LOL
hmmm. what else can i share? well, we've had the flu, like, twice, and some pretty nasty colds. we had a 2.5 day power outage with a windstorm! it felled a tree behind our house...onto our neighbor's...we actually WATCHED it fall! it was SO scary. they were okay, though, thankfully!!
and i TOTALLY spring cleaned my scraproom. we're talkin, EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY. it was awesome. LONG....but awesome! james attempted to take some pictures of me as i stood sorting stuff on our bed....i wasn't having any of that.....LOL:
note with humor (PLEASE?!) the unmakeup'ed face, ponytail'ed undone hair, circles under eyes...and what the crap is that jowel thingy??? HUH?! someone tell me when i started getting THAT?! :P lol i saw this on my photo card later and laughed so hard...."hi, i am vogueing..." lol
OH! CHA-Anaheim is coming in a flash! off again to work the show at Autumn Leaves booth...HARD work, that stuff! but i love it! we are there from booth set up (washing displays, sorting order forms, cutting stickyback velcro into little squares...) so take down! not much time to just hang and play, but that's okay! i LOVE the work! :D love seeing my friends again, connecting, laughing, smiling, sharing....love seeing customers enjoying themselves and each other....it is just such a FUN environment! :) my mom and dad will get to visit/stay for awhile, as well, which will be really fun! i'll get to show them up close the "world" i work in...this crazy, wonderful world of crafting! :D my family (dh, kiddos...) were originally going to come, too, and "do disney," but due to some OTHER REALLY INCREDIBLY CRAZY COOL plans we now have in place for later this spring, they need to stay home and save up their "vacation days." ;D i can't wait to share!! :D
more good news: baylor is finally Binky-Less! :O AND....he went pee in the potty for the first time!! i am so happy for him...such developmental growth going on right now in that cute little curly haired head of his! LOL he is a JOY to watch everyday. :)
that felt GOOD to finally update!!! wooo hoooo!!!! :D maybe i'll tackle my emails next! :D
thanks for kicking my butt Rachael and Bri. :) you have my permission to kick it again if i slack off... :D love ya! xoxo
