a new trove of layouts up now at 2peas in the creating garden...lots of digi love!
and it's time to share the next stage of the "Grammie Square"...the squaring off!
so last we left off, we had 2 go-rounds. now comes the point where we turn the circle into a square.
1. begin by hooking in to a space between one of your puff stitches and chaining (ch) 3.
2. in the same space, half double chain (hdc) 2 more stitches.
3. (ch) 1.
4. now moving to next space below between puffs, double chain (dc) 3. then (ch) 1.
5. in the next space, triple chain (trc) 3. (ch) 3 for the corner. again in same space (trc) 3 more.
6. in next space, (dc) 3, (ch) 1.
7. repeat steps 1-6.
it should look like this:
8. simply repeat until you have all four corners and slip stitch to close.
9. to finish square, just make a new row where you (dc) 3 (ch) 1 in each space, except in the corners where you will (dc) 3 (ch) 3 (dc) 3 (ch) 1 in the one corner space to form the new row's corner.
10. below, you'll see i've done that once in red, then again in red, twice in blue, and again in green. the second red row and both blue rows are a variation of step 9, however, where i've simply switched out the (dc) for a shorter (hdc). it's up to you...it all depends on how large you want your square to end up.
11. finally, you'll see that i've finished off the square with a single crochet (sc) in each crochet stitch to give it a nice, defined edge.
enjoy! and i'd love it if you share your finished squares! :D
i love the idea to demonstrate how to crochet your own flowers for scrapbook pages...i will do a tutorial on that, next! it will be really fun!
